Video transcript
Did you know many organisations see as much as 20% of their employee turnover happening within the first 45 days in a job. A great first week. Hell, a great first day, can make all the difference. And that's top tip number 22. This is your chance for another great big warm. Welcome, but just as crucial is demonstrating how important your new people are the business. A great way to accomplish that is to define and deliver a consistent and engaging induction process. Group sessions work really well here so people can build connections across the business with other newbies. Even if you don't have the numbers for groups sessions anything that stops a new hire sitting at their desk and twiddling their thumbs while IT set up their computer is a good thing. A good question to ask yourself is when did you last review your induction? Is it still fit for purpose? How can it help new hires make friends and build connections? Does it work for employees starting their career remotely? Is it death by PowerPoint? A great start also relies on managers and buddies knowing what they’re meant to doing too. A simple checklist of tasks can work wonders here. We're often asked what we do at Eli to make day one special. Well, we like to find out what a person's favourite biscuit is as part of their onboarding, and on day one there's a packet sitting on their desk. It's a small touch everyone remembers it with a smile.
